You may already know that the human body consists of 5 elements, namely, Agni, Vayu, Jal, Bhumi and Akasha. So, the human body is a mini world and any type of disturbance in the balancing of these elements can lead to diseases. 

Yoga is a practice to balance the body and mind and bring about harmony among the parts of the body to guarantee efficient functioning of each part. Yoga Mudra does exactly this. It balances the various elements and harmonizes the various parts of the body for a healthy living.

The Types of Yoga Mudra 

Yoga Mudra can change the mood, the perception and the entire attitude of a person. To get the best results from Yoga Mudra, combine a series of pranayama, asanas, breathing exercises. The important and basic types of yoga mudras are as follows:

Gyan Mudra

Gyan Mudra is number-1 Mudra and the most important Mudra for it is meant for the mind. It benefits the nervous system and improves the functioning of the human brain, improves focus and concentration, and relieves stress, tension and anxiety. Sit in the position of meditation, relax and take a deep breath. To practice this mudra, fold the index finger and let it touch inside the root of the thumb. Other fingers must be stretched and kept apart in a relaxed position. Then rest your arms on the knees allowing the palms to face downwards. 

Surya Mudra

If you want to lose weight, then practice Surya Mudra. This mudra improves digestion while raising the fire elements. The Yoga Mudra is pretty simple, where you need to press your ring finger with the help of your thumb. Straighten all other fingers and keep them in a relaxed state. Place the hands on the knees allowing your palms to face downwards.

Prana Mudra

If you feel a lack of energy, then Prana Mudra will energize you. It increases the earth and water element to energize you. To practice this Mudra, bend your little finger and the ring finger and let the tips of both fingers be touched by the thumb. Other fingers should remain straight and relaxed.

Vayu Mudra

It is excellent for pain relief because Vayu Mudra increases the air element in the body. Bend your index finger and press the phalanx bone of the index finger with the thumb. Again, other fingers must remain straight and in a relaxed pose.

Varun Mudra

To relieve menstrual cramps, curb dehydration and muscular cramps, you must regularly practice Varun Mudra. It also curbs the dryness of mouth, eyes and throat. Touch the little finger’s tip with the thumb tip. Others fingers remain relaxed and in a straight position.
